A drama in two acts
William Gibson
Directed by Ulanbek Baialiev (Kyrgyzstan)
Duration – 2 hrs 30 mins
Premiere date – 8th December, 2017
The State Small Theatre of Vilnius invites the audience to sensual retro-style melodrama based on the play by the American playwright William Gibson. Written in 1958 and prized with the prestigious Tony Award it has been constantly staging in theatres all over the world ever since due to its timeless theme and the perfect material for the actors to show off their skills.
He and She. Two different worlds, two lonely souls. She is a dancer who can't find herself, he is a lawyer struggling to find his way. More than anything, they long for love, but pride, self-love and unbreakable ties to a painful past prevent them from being together. They cling to each other as if there was their last hope, just expecting different things from each other...
The subtle nuances of the relationship between a man and a woman, the apt dialogues and the caustic humour will immerse the spectators in the atmosphere of the 1970s film era and will let them enjoy the excellence of acting by Indrė Patkauskaitė as Gittel Mosca and Mantas Vaitiekūnas as Jerry Ryan. They replace, in a way, the actor duos that have made their mark in the history of Lithuanian theatre and cinema with previous productions of Gibson's play: in theatre, Monika Mironaitė and Artiomas Inozemcevas (1962), and in the cinema, Nelė Savičenko and Kostas Smoriginas (1994).
Two for the Seesaw is a great offer for those who long for psychological theatre.
Ulanbek Baialiev, director
“The very title Two for the Seesaw encodes the meaning: the “game for two”, the initial state yin and yang, woman and man. I am interested in exploring the relationships between the characters in the play trying to understand how they change over time, who is Man and Woman for us today in general and what is the nature of this relationship.”
